Finding Purpose on the Road: A Driver’s Story
Every day, compassionate drivers like Detra Glasco from Chef for Hire bring more than just meals—they bring heart, connection, and comfort to seniors across Indiana. In this candid conversation, we hear from Detra as she opens up about the emotional impact of her work, the relationships she forms with clients, and the deep sense of purpose she’s found behind the wheel.
Detra Glasco:
Sometimes I’m feeling a little down, but as soon as I see them I kind of light up. It makes me know that I made their day. Just by bringing them their food.
Interviewer:
yeah, that's amazing you really are sitting in your purpose I just feel like it talking with you.
Detra Glasco:
When they pass away I'm kind of sad on that too. Especially, when you’ve gotten to know them. They like family. I’ve been driving for Chef for Hire for about three years now.
Interviewer:
I know Chef for Hire serves the whole state of Indiana do you have a particular territory that you drive?
Detra Glasco:
Yes. Every other Thursday, I go to Terre Haute. Every other one Thursday I go to Connersville. One Friday, I'll go to Frankfort and Lafayette, and then this Friday, it’s Greenwood.
Interviewer:
Oh that's awesome, okay so you really get around and get around a lot of clients.
Detra Glasco:
Yeah, and when I’m not there—like today, but I kind of gave them a heads up too. I told them I had something to do for the company. I told them I wouldn't be there, "So expect somebody else, might not be the same time so just be patient with them."
